Chainsaw man and Mappa Stage

Mappa has been the centre of attention ever since its rise to mainstream popularity with titles likes Jujutsu kaisen, Banana fish and Attack on Titan final season. A lot less known fact about it is, it’s created by one of the founders of Studio Madhouse; Masao Maruyama. The production giant which is behind the many great animes which came out in early to late 2000s

Madhouse’s never-ending schedule and overworking its producers was one of the key elements which lead to its downfall and looks like Mappa is heading there too. The price you have to pay for an immaculate adaptation is seemingly too high and Masao and the team just can’t catch a break.

Sources and some more

Putting these aside, Mappa was still bold enough to take chainsaw man and a couple of original titles under their belt and all I can hope for is their employees are alright and healthy. Mappa just had its 10th anniversary and they decided to pair this up with the release of some new sneak peeks into the things they’ve been working on and honestly all of it seems facinating.

Major Titles

Chainsaw man

The long-awaited anime adaptation of chainsaw man finally got a tiny trailer, the event was a huge success because a lot of chainsaw man fans were hyping it up over social media. I was travelling, in the middle of nowhere with like 8% battery when it got announced and in all honesty, it looks fantastic. The wait was worth it, the soundtrack sounded dope and the trailer didn’t give away too much but enough to leave us with questions

A final date hasn’t been announced yet but I think it’ll be mid to late 2022 as they also have jujutsu kaisen 0 movie and attack on titan finale lined up. Here’s a link to the trailer.

Alice and Therese’s Illusory Factory.

MAPPA is popular enough to make anime originals now and as their ever-growing popularity reaches new heights, they announced Alice and Therese’s illusory factory. It seemed like a Romance and Slice of Life type of anime and quoting directly from My Anime List:

“The film will tell the story of boys and girls struggling in an ambiguous world, as they fight their destiny with “love” as the weapon.”

The trailer looks pretty good and artsy as hell, give it a watch.

Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan’s manga just ended a few weeks back and I expressed my dissatisfaction in a post, shameless plug but go check it out if you’ve read the manga. Anyway, the final season stopped at a very crucial point in the manga where the tone almost completely shifts, it’s a lot more plot-y, and almost no action happens for a couple of chapters.

I am curious to see how they will end it because Isayama expressed his disappointment in how it ended, he felt he didn’t do it justice even though he practically gave us 2 different endings. Mappa might change it or tweak it a bit but that’s just my speculation.

The teaser is already out and they a recently made a tweet about it.

The end is near :O

Takt Op.Destiny

The most shocking thing about the event for me was the collaboration that this anime came with, Takt Op.Destiny is a collaboration between Mappa and Madhouse. Both of these studios are a powerhouse when it comes to animation and this anime looks like Fate

The anime is based off an upcoming game of the same name which is made by  Bandai Namco Arts and DeNA. It seems to mix the genres of action and musical as the story introduces characters who fights monsters using melodies and music, it’s set in a dystopian america in 2047.

It looks promising and fun. Here’s the video

Conclusion

The event would have been a more fun if chainsaw man weren’t spamming mindlessly in the comments but it is what it is lmao, it’s mappa year baby i can’t wait for it.

  1. Chainsaw man’s trailer delivered, it truly delivered. I was so worried it was going to blow, but it ended up surpassing my expectations. It is pre-animated though, so chances are the finished product may look slightly different, but lets hope Mappa brings in their A-game for this.

That being said, was kinda hoping that Mappa would get to announce some new manga adaptations at the event, such as the recently announced “Hells Paradise” anime and maybe a “Gantz” remake. That would have been incredible to witness.
